OOh man, my friends are busying blogging yesterday night till 1am, i just started my blogging like NOW? which is the 2nd day of the trip?
Haha.Alright,let me start now. =)
On 4 March 2009, we, a group of student from SOE(school of engineering) flew off singapore at 0800hr to Guangzhou and then a transit flight at 1530hr to Wuhan, where the university is located.
The first meal we ate in china was McDonald's, YES no mistake!!! It was at Guangzhou Airport. i remember the air cabin crew stated that the weather temperture in Guangzhou was at 12°C, haha that was still ok. However, i and my team didnt experience much as we didnt leave the airport during the transit.
Soon, we boarded on the plane to Wuhan from guanzhou airport, WEEEE!! seem fun isnt it?Yes it was fun, as i was expecting snow in wuhan since i check the weather forcast a few days before the trip. The trip lasted for around 2hours as wuhan is located above Guangzhou towards the North pole.
Lots of excitement was in me, as the plane was descending, many low rising houses and agriculture were seen from above the land. the weather was very misty fog i can say. As we alight the plane, the first thing we found was the smoke coming out from out mouth and nose, real cool!!! as though we are smoking in our country. It was 6°C when we alight from the plane in wuhan, didnt see any snow. As we make our way out of the airport and boarded the school bus which lasted us an hour plus. we passes by many agriculture and low rising houses with minimum developed infrastructure.
finally, we reached the university, but right before it turn in , i saw a KFC lighted sign board lighted high up!!! i shouted it loud in the bus and everyone in the bus laugh and some ask where.
haha. We arrived at the student hostel and carried my bags up, and to our suprised that the facilities were very good then expected!! As everythings went smoothly, we proceed to the school canteen and settle our dinner. In the canteen, there is many choices of food to eat, but none seem familar to me even there stated SIN JIA PO(singapore) cook food. To me, the feeling it give me was a zhi char store, cause they do not have food pictures for illustration, it just stated the name of food that was available.
As the time goes by, time for good sleep to prepare for tmr planning.
ASSESSMENT ONE
1. This overseas immersion program gives me the opportunities to learn more about china. China, the largest population of the world , a great history of 2000 years , an opening market of business opportunities and do have one out of seven wonders of the world which is the Great wall of china.
China does have many great inventions and great culture. China greatest inventions would be paper, gunpowder, compress and wood printing blocks and it is still being able to be seen till today. In 2008, the Olympic was held in Beijing. It is great to be able to see performance about China history and culture in the opening and closing ceremony of the Olympic, which give me more interests to know much more about China.
As china is a huge country, consists of many states and city. There is a long and huge history about the country. I would be interested to find out more about the living standard of china peoples, cultures and even explore fun and historical places which I never been before.
Interests , building up social interaction/relationship gives me a strong motivation to learn, It is an golden opportunity that was given to me to go for the overseas immersion program. I would take this chance to gain more life experience of how is life out there. The Independent mindset of mind and motivation allows me to go further out there to learn more.
2. To allow me to have the most benefit out of the trip, my focus area of exploration would be in social relationships, lifestyle of the peoples and explore how china is upgrading in its own country.
3. My 5 questions are:
How is Wuhan area distributed?
How different is Wuhan and Singapore?
How is Land being utilized in Wuhan, China?
How are the standards of living in Wuhan?
What are the transports in Wuhan?
4. Tolerance for discomfort - As Singapore is a clean and green country, the cleanliness in china would not be same. The level of tolerance helps me to learn more and even allow me to adapt to the new environment without any complaint. See discomfort is a normal part of life that, generally, only becomes a problem when you tell yourself you cannot stand it.
Interpersonal Skills – I would like to improve to communicate and interaction skills with the people there so I could be able to know more about them. The skills allow me to explore much more into the world of china. It will help me know more different etiquette of different countries.
Comfort level with strangers – With this skill, I would able to handle their different action, culture or behavior which we could not tolerate. It brings us to closer term and we could share our different views and culture, which then benefit as it is gaining more life experience.
5. In order to learn, researches are to be done. A well prepare person will avoid the lost of information and gain benefit which cannot be miss. Research method of mine would be the internet source, newspaper which is a good choice to understand the current situation of the city now and then. Travel books and Map are being seen to find out the places of interests. The best way to learn was to interact with the locals over in china.
